It took many years, but eventually I figured out how to make a fully functional Great Highland Bagpipe out of composite materials. I used brass tubing to create the inner linings of the drones, which produces a sound indistinguishable from a traditional set of African Blackwood pipes.
On top of the brass linings, I've covered them with foam and fiberglass, carbon fiber and even driftwood. I've built ten sets, each one different from the last. The video is Aaron and Keith of the Wicked Tinkers playing the Percussion pipes, courtesy of Matt Walsh. I've built Guinness pipes, Egyptian pipes, Racing pipes, Protest pipes, Black Marble pipes, Chrome pipes, Driftwood pipes, Pictish War pipes and the Green Marble pipes. I've given away or sold all of the bagpipes I've made except for the Green Marble pipes. These pipes are the culmination of many years of development and are the best pipes I've ever made. This set includes one of only two carbon fiber chanters that I also developed (see patent below). |
